DESIGN GUIDE
Our sliding doors are made from premium quality aluminium and using the latest technology offer super smooth and quiet gliding doors. We custom manufacture doors to fit door openings of up to 2400mm high and 3600mm wide.
Depending on the size of the opening, you have the option of double or triple tracks. Sliding doors are designed to slightly overlap each other to provide a seamless look at the same time as concealing your wardrobe interior.
We manufacture two styles of sliding doors, Metro Series and Ultra Series. Metro Series doors have a slim frame, our classic easy-glide wheel system, and each door can be made up to 2.1m high x 0.9m wide. Ultra Series doors are our premium door option which have a thick frame, an internal wheel system for super smooth gliding, and each door can be made up to 2.4m high x 1.2m wide. Both styles boast Aluminium frames and tracks which are available in white or silver, and offer mirror and white melamine panel combinations.
Double Doors
Most custom made wardrobe doors are in pairs/sets and we would recommend this setup for small to medium openings. Door openings between 1000mm and 1800mm wide suit our Metro Series doors, or between 1000mm and 2400mm wide suit our Ultra Series doors. A 2 door track is 80mm deep to sit within your existing door jamb (top track is 80mm deep, bottom track is 60mm deep – set back from the front edge – refer install instructions for position of bottom track). If you have drawers in your wardrobe, you will need to off-set the drawers from the centre so they make clearance of the sliding doors which are manufactured to overlap each other to conceal the wardrobe behind.
Triple Doors
For medium to large door openings we recommend 3 doors on 3 tracks for better access to drawers and shelves. Door openings between 1500mm and 2700mm wide suit our Metro Series doors, or between 1500mm and 3600mm wide suit our Ultra Series doors.
A 3 door track system is 120mm deep to sit within your existing door jamb (top track is 120mm deep, bottom track is 100mm deep – set back from the front edge – refer install instructions for position of bottom track). This is often the best option for wardrobes that have drawer systems inside, as each door runs in it’s own track, meaning all 3 doors can be stacked to the hard left or hard right for greater access at any one time. If you have drawers in your wardrobe, you will need to ensure the drawers make clearance of the door opening as sliding doors are manufactured to overlap each other to conceal the wardrobe behind.
Quad Doors
For large door openings, or for wardrobes where a triple track (120mm) is too deep to house, we recommend 4 doors on 2 tracks. Suited for door openings between 2000mm wide and 3600mm wide. Quad doors give you good access to your wardrobe system behind, accessing nearly 50% of your wardrobe space at any one time. Two doors run on the front track, and two doors on the back track, meaning you can move all four doors to access the various areas of your wardrobe behind – especially suitable for wardrobes with drawer systems. A 2 door track system is 80mm deep to sit within your existing door jamb. If you have drawers in your wardrobe, you will need to ensure the drawers make clearance of the door opening as sliding doors are manufactured to overlap each other to conceal the wardrobe behind.
Floor Surface
Sliding Doors rely on a hard and level surface for smooth operation. If the floor surface is not level where a door track will be applied, you will need to prepare the surface to be level prior to providing your final measurement. If a floor packer is required for the bottom door track, we will supply a 10mm floor packer free of charge. The packer can only be used on a hard surface where carpet will be applied. Cutting existing carpet is the responsibility of the customer or a professional. Bottom tracks cannot be installed on top of carpet.
Points To Consider
-
2 doors on 2 tracks allows just shy of half of the wardrobe to be opened.
This is ideal for wardrobes containing drawers positioned off-centre.
2 doors are suitable for door opening widths up to 1800mm wide with Metro Series doors, and up to 2400mm wide with Ultra Series doors. -
3 doors on 3 tracks allows just shy of two thirds of the wardrobe to be opened.
This is ideal for wardrobes containing drawers positioned off-centre, and in some cases in the centre depending on size.
3 doors are suitable for door opening widths up to 2700mm wide with Metro Series doors, and up to 3600mm wide with Ultra Series doors. -
4 doors on 2 tracks allows just shy half of the wardrobe to be opened.
This is ideal to access various sections of your wardrobe behind and is suitable for wardrobes with drawer systems.
4 doors are suitable for door opening widths between 2000mm and 3600mm wide.
Bottom tracks must be placed directly on a hard surface (timber, concrete etc.). If you are planning on installing carpet, we recommend installing the packer & track prior to carpet.
If there is existing carpet, this will need to be cut, and we will supply a packer to install on the hard surface (the carpet will need to be cut before you take final measurement).
What To Measure
Measure your wardrobe frame opening. You will need to take 4 measurements as below.
- Width at the Top
- Width at the Bottom
- Height on the Left
- Height on the Right
Height measurements must be taken from the hard floor surface (not on top of carpet).
The final height will determine which door style will suit. If your door height is more than 2.1m high then you will need to select from our Ultra Series doors. If your door height is 2.1m or less, then you can choose either Metro Series or Ultra Series.
Decide how many doors, and what tracks you require, i.e. 2 doors on a double track or 3 doors on a triple track.
Decide on what type of panel and the quantity you require, e.g. 2x mirror, or a combination 1x mirror + 1x white melamine.
Decide on what panel frame and track colour. The track and frame colour options are White or Brushed Aluminium.
